Stuff for the new Mac in the house

DH's iMac arrived yesterday. That got me thinking about some of the programs that I really like on my Mac.
  • Thunderbird and Firefox with the del.icio.us plugin. I've also been using TwitterFox but DH has not been converted to Twitter just yet. Greasemonkey plugins are good too.
  • BusySync which I am now using to synchronize iCal with Google Calendar.
  • Flip4Mac which allows Windows Media files to play on your Mac via QuickTime
  • Lingon, basically a cron job scheduler. A GUI to launchd to be a bit more technical.
  • AdiumX, an instant messaging client that integrates most IM protocols (yes, even Lotus Sametime).
  • Parallels or VMWare Fusion, both allow you to run Windows on your Mac if you need to.
  • MissingSync if you still love your Palm
Those are the big ones that come to mind. I'm sure that I've missed many utilities.

What Macintosh programs do you use?

  3. DH had some questions about iPhoto
    - how do you share across the home network?
    - how do you backup to DVD?
    - how do you upload to Snapfish

    Sharing
In iPhoto -> Preferences -> Sharing, check "Share my photos" and add a password if you wish. This will share your iPhoto Library with up to five other computers on your subnet.

On the other machine, in iPhoto -> Preferences -> Sharing make sure that "Look for Shared Photos" is checked.

    Burning
Open iPhoto and select your Library, roll, album, or individual photos you want to burn to a disc. Then go to the Share menu, and choose Burn. Follow the prompts to complete the process

    Snapfish
    There is no plugin. ARG!

I guess you could build your own in Cocoa

    Plugins *are* available for

Flickr (owned by Yahoo) - first 200 photos free, unlimited storage with Pro Account for ~$25/year
    - Flickr Uploadr 3.0 and iPhoto plugin for Mac OS X
    - Free Flickr eXporter iPhoto Plugin (FFXporter)

Picassa web albums (owned by Google) - first 1GB free, additional paid yearly
    Picasa Web Albums Uploader

SmugMug (indy?) - no ads, unlimited storage, $40/year and up
    MacDaddy
